Deep Sea World

Deep Sea World is situated on the site of the disused Battery Quarry in North Queensferry, Fife and was opened to the public in 1994.

When you first arrive at Deep Sea World, all there seems to be is a car park but in fact, the car park is actually the roof of Deep Sea World. Visitors must make their way down a ramp to enter, via a lower level.

This lower level houses many of Deep Sea World’s attractions but for the most spectacular one, you need to travel down more ramps that take you well below the water level in the surrounding quarry.

The Main Attraction

The main attraction at Deep Sea World is the transparent acrylic Underwater Tunnel which is 112m long and is one of the longest in the world. The curvature of the 2.6 inch thick acrylic causes a de-magnifying effect on all the fish swimming around you, which is about a one-third reduction.

The Tunnel leads you through a magnificent lit tank, containing 1,000,000 imperial gallons of sea water and a wide variety of species and fish. Discover what it is like to walk amongst Europe’s largest collection of Sand Tiger Sharks, marvel at the huge rays and simply enjoy looking up at all the different types of small fish.

Dive With Sharks

If diving with sharks is something you have always wanted to do, then why not dive into Deep Sea World’s Underwater Safari and come face-to-face with the Sand Tiger Sharks, Thornback Rays, Conger Eels and over 1,000 fish. There are shark dives for qualified and non-qualified divers and also one for the children (aged 8-15 years).

Other Attractions

In 2005, Deep Sea World opened a seal sanctuary, which consists of two pools. One houses resident seals and the other is home to about ten rescued or injured seal pups.

The best time to see them is when they are fed, so check what time this will be when you arrive.

Visitors can also enjoy the different themed areas, where you can explore the rainforest or come face-to-face with a tank of deadly piranhas.

Gift Shop & Café

There is a large café at Deep Sea World, with views over the South half of the quarry and a gift shop for visitors to take home a souvenir to remember their fun day out spent at Deep Sea World.
