Commenting on the Scottish Executive announcement in the Scottish Parliament of £3 million to Glasgow museums, Jane Ryder, Director of the Scottish Museums Council, said “SMC has long recognised the importance of Glasgow's collections and services and we welcome any additional investment in non-national museums. But Glasgow is far from being the only museum service to care for important collections which are part of our national heritage: many other local authorities and independent museums have important collections and services but like Glasgow struggle to find viable long term funding. The Scottish Museums Council launched a new initiative designed to encourage and promote strategic change within the Museums sector today. Managed by the Scottish Museums Council and funded by the Scottish Executive, the Strategic Change Fund will deliver over £1.5 million to successful projects throughout Scotland over the next two years.
