Kirriemuir Gateway to the Glens Museum
The museum is housed in Kirriemuir Town House which was built in 1604. It was opened as a museum in 2001 after the building was restored. The displays are housed on two floors, along with a shop and reception area.
Visitors get to experience the history, culture and natural environment of ‘Kirrie’ and the Angus Glens, with recordings of local people, temporary displays and a touch-screen computer giving you further information.
The ground floor looks at the town’s history, with information about famous Kirriemarians, such as J.M.Barrie Author of Peter Pan) and Peter Hood (early typewriter Inventor), while the upstairs explores the history, wildlife, geology and archaeology of Glen Clova, Glen Doll, Glen Isla and Glen Prosen.
