The Skye Museum of Island Life

The museum opened in 1965, using The Old Croft House, which was built at the beginning of the 1800s and was still in use as a family home until 1957. You get an insight into life on Skye and across the highlands and islands at the close of the 1800s. The museum now has seven thatched cottages, of which four are furnished and equipped as they would have been.

It is hoped that one day the museum will be turned into a living museum, where the way of life at the end of the 1800s can be seen taking place.

The central cottage is home to the reception area and gift shop, where there is a great selection of books about Skye and its history, plus other souvenirs.
