This programme will create partnerships between museums and social work organisations and community groups. Developing a more effective relationship between museums and social work staff will assist museums in making a more sustainable contribution to the local community.
The programme will develop specific projects with selected groups who have no history of involvement with museums or museum collections. Through participating in these projects, people with a wide range of needs will be encouraged to enjoy museums and be inspired by museum collections. The beneficiaries will include Special Needs and Criminal Justice groups.
Project activities will include development work with individuals who have no history of involvement with museums or museum collections, work with social work staff to support their clients in museum activity, development of partnerships between museum and social work departments, alter service provision in the medium term to respond to project needs.
