The Distributed National Burns Collection

Burns National Heritage Park - 107,306
Partners: East, North and South Ayrshire Councils, Cities of Edinburgh and Glasgow Councils, Irvine Burns Club, Museum of the Grand Lodge of Scotland, University of Strathclyde, National Library of Scotland, National Trust for Scotland and National Museums of Scotland.

A project to build a strong foundation for museums and other organisations to work together to preserve and promote access to one of the countrys most significant distributed national collections that relating to Robert Burns.

So far the project has successfully completed two phases of work. The first saw the publication of a major scoping study, to reveal the richness and diversity of collections relating to Robert Burns distributed across Scotland, as well as to map collections and examine related issues of collections management, capacity, access, learning and marketing.  The second phase has focussed on improving public awareness of and access to Burns collections, and has resulted in the creation of a suite of public resources, including web based object trails, a comprehensive guide to collections, promotional leaflets and learning materials for schools. In the final phase of the project partners will develop an Action Plan, to build on project achievements and further develop mutual support systems and partnership opportunities for a more sustainable future.
