Falkirk Council/Scottish Railway Preservation Society - 98,942
This local authority and independent museum trust collaborative project is designed to encourage knowledge and skills sharing. Appointment of a dedicated Collections Officer has enabled SRPS to benefit from Falkirks expertise in collections management, whilst SRPS is sharing its long experience of building volunteer and community involvement within the local authority.
The project, now just over halfway through, is felt to be progressing well. Agreed milestones, particularly in collections care and development, are being met and real benefits are already acknowledged. The project team is planning for the remaining strategic issues to be tackled, and is looking in particular at how volunteer engagement might further impact and benefit both organisations.
Plans are also progressing for a Scottish Railway Conference to be hosted in Falkirk in 2005. This exciting event will not only celebrate the achievement of the project partners and provide valuable networking opportunity for the railway sector, but will celebrate SRPS contribution and collections on a national level.
