Playing to Our Strengths
Dundee City Council and Dundee Heritage Trust - 100,000
'Playing to our strengths' develops and cements an emergent partnership between the two Dundee heritage providers, for the benefit of Dundee's citizens and visitors who will see a 'joined up' approach to interpretation and customer care. The project is based on a formal partnership agreement, and should contribute to future sustainability by breaking down audience barriers and creating real cultural change.
Both organisations have been working on fully documenting Dundee's collections, giving staff greater knowledge of all collections and enabling greater interpretation for visitors. Loans across venues will be simpler and the setting up of joint and complementary exhibition programmes will be possible.
The project also involves the 'up-skilling' of front of house staff at each of the City's main venues, with staff having the opportunity to network by coming together for regular in-house training sessions, covering a wide variety of subjects. These training sessions are giving staff a greater insight into the many functions the museums carry out and a better knowledge of each others collections, enabling greater levels of interpretation for visitors.
Staff members have also been undertaking a Scottish Vocational Qualification Level 2 in Heritage Care and Visitor Services. These development opportunities ensuring staff are better equipped and more confident in assisting visitors in turn enriching visitors learning experiences.
