All applicants must have contact with their Assessing Organisation prior to the submission of an application. In Scotland this organisation is the Scottish Museums Council. Discussion with SMC will confirm the timing of the submission in the case of those museums already in the scheme or to agree the invitation slot for any new museums. Museums should not send an application to SMC without first agreeing timing within the submission programme.
All museums currently registered under Phase 2 of the scheme will be required to submit an application under the new Accreditation Standard. SMC will invite submissions as part of a programme agreed following consultation with members. All local authorities have already been provided with details of their invitation slot over the first 2 years (Year 1 = 2005 and Year 2 = 2006). All museums being invited to apply in 2007 have recived pre-invitation information letters. This includes university, regimental, non-government funded national museums and large independents.
