Museums Forums

There are a number of active museums forums in Scotland. They aim to bring local museums, and in some cases other heritage organisations, together to benefit from:

• Regular exchange of information, ideas and expertise
• Liaison between the local authority and independent organisations
• Joint promotion and marketing
• Joint training activities
• Joint project work

Museums Galleries Scotland support
Museums Galleries Scotland recognises the value of local authority and independent museums working together, and aims to support and encourage the work of Scottish museums forums. Support is offered primarily through our grants and training programmes. Staff are also available to deliver content or lead discussion at forum meetings, for example to explore current sector issues, to promote individual or group development, or to focus on specific aspects of museum practice.

If you are interested in setting up a museums forum, developing your existing forum, or undertaking new joint projects you might also find our guidance on constitutions, forward planning or fundraising to be useful.
